Keagan Smith details his top first touchdown scorer props for Sunday’s NFL Wild Card matchup between the Bills and Jaguars.

The first games of the NFL Playoffs came and went with a bang yesterday, but the action continues with three more matchups on Sunday. At 1 p.m. EST, the Buffalo Bills and reigning MVP Josh Allen head to Florida for a meeting with an exciting young Jacksonville Jaguars squad making what feels like an improbable postseason appearance. With two excellent offenses and a combined game total of 51.5 points, there should be plenty of scoring in this one.

Let’s take a look at the top first TD scorer picks on DraftKings Sportsbook for Bills vs. Jaguars to start Sunday’s NFL Wild Card Weekend slate.

Bills vs. Jaguars first touchdown scorer prop bets

James Cook first touchdown scorer (+600)

Chalky pick? Sure. Good pick? Also true. James Cook has served as the heart and soul of the Bills’ offense over the last couple of seasons and has one of the safest projectable roles of any player in the NFL. Josh Allen gets the shine as all quarterbacks do, and to be fair, he’s Josh freaking Allen. The love is deserved! Still, Cook just led the league with 1,621 rushing yards during the regular season as he crossed the 1,000-yard mark for the third consecutive time. Beyond that, he scored 12 rushing touchdowns and his 14 total TDs tied him for the fifth-most of any player. Cook also led the NFL in rushing touchdowns last season, so he’s consistently found his way into the end zone on a regular basis.

Yes, he’s a chalky play, but Cook was one of just 21 players to score the first touchdown of a game three or more times this season. He did so on three occasions and Buffalo runs the ball plenty with a the second-highest rush rate at 50.55%. The Bills’ also’ 29 touchdowns via the ground also paced the league, so taking either Cook or Allen as a first touchdown makes plenty of sense even against a very good Jacksonville front seven. I lean towards the former because he handled 56 red-zone carries in the regular season as opposed to 33 for the latter.

Travis Etienne Jr. first touchdown scorer (+500)

Yeah yeah, I hear you. Forgive me for putting another chalky play in this article, but would you like to know why Travis Etienne Jr. makes an appearance here despite the shortest odds of scoring the first touchdown? He joined Cook on the list of 21 players to score at least three first TDs, also hitting paydirt three times himself. The Jaguars’ lead halfback racked up 1,107 rushing yards this season with 1,399 scrimmage yards and 13 total touchdowns, tied for the sixth-most scores of any player. With usage on the ground and as a receiver (seven rushing touchdowns, six receiving), there are a variety of ways for Etienne to make an impact here.

His 51 carries in the red zone tied him for the seventh-most among running backs, and he also saw 10 targets inside the 20-yard line. That makes for elite usage in the most valuable area of the field, but we know Etienne brings breakaway ability as evidenced by a past penchant for ripping off chunk gains. The Bills are particularly vulnerable against the run, conceding the fifth-most rushing yards and tying for the most rushing touchdowns allowed at 24 (with the Cowboys… yikes). The Jags will run the ball and Liam Coen tends to make the most of schematic advantages in the ground game, so Etienne looks like as good a pick as any to score the first TD.
