One aspect of the Tennessee Titans‘ head coaching search that has flown under the radar this week is the status of the remaining coaches on the staff and their future within the organization.
While many will likely not be retained, coordinators such as Dennard Wilson and John Fassel, along with some of the position coaches, could have a shot at staying in Nashville depending on who is eventually named head coach.

While the coaches are somewhat stuck in limbo, general manager Mike Borgonzi has granted permission for other teams to interview them for potential openings, and the Washington Commanders took advantage of that to interview defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson for their opening.
Wilson has been solid in his time as defensive coordinator with the Titans, even if the results were less than stellar. In many ways, he was dealt a rough hand and made the most out of what he was given. The Titans’ defense struggled with depth issues all season, and once injuries ravaged the secondary, there was no answer on the roster.
From the outset of the season, Wilson had to overcome significant issues at edge and cornerback, and along the defensive line, due to injuries, trades, and experience gaps. The defense played hard and flashed some potential. Having a dominant force like Jeffery Simmons helps, but under his tutelage, players such as Cedric Gray have started to ascend.

Wilson’s defense ranked 21st in total defense, 28th in yards allowed per play, 28th in red-zone defense, and 28th in scoring defense, but much of that was due to a lack of depth and injuries in the secondary.
The Titans have not officially parted ways with Wilson or any of their coaches from 2025, so Tennessee would have to permit Wilson to leave the organization. But with this being a homecoming for Wilson, who grew up in the Washington, D.C., area, it would be hard to imagine Borgonzi blocking him if the opportunity presented itself.
