A key Kansas City Chiefs coach who collaborated on two of Patrick Mahomes‘ three Super Bowl titles has interviewed to replace fired Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.

Matt Nagy, the Chiefs offensive coordinator and 2018 NFL Coach of the Year with the Chicago Bears, has completed an interview with the Ravens, Baltimore announced Sunday.

Although head coach Andy Reid is generally credited with calling plays in Kansas City, Nagy is generally considered one of the brightest offensive minds in football.

Of course, it helps having Mahomes, Travis Kelce and series of All-Pro offensive linemen, but Nagy does deserve another chance to be a head coach five years after being fired by the Chicago Bears.

‘He’s experienced an organization,’ Reid told reporters this week. ‘He’s experienced how you work with an owner, he’s experienced how you do the personnel side of it, how you have to work with a GM and how you have to be on the same page, together, with that. And he’s had to deal with players and coaches, and everybody has issues.

‘So, there’s a human element to it. And he’s done all of that and I think he’s ready to roll, and get out there, and knock it out again.’

The Chiefs are in danger of losing Kelce to retirement or free agency, and could potentially lose long-time defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to a head-coaching position.

Meanwhile, defensive line coach Joe Cullen is considered a candidate to become a defensive coordinator somewhere around the NFL. Cullen recently interviewed with the Commanders, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Beyond Kelce, other key players such as running back Isiah Pacheco, receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown and safety Bryan Cook could leave via free agency.

A former Philadelphia Eagles practice squad quarterback, Nagy later became the Chiefs quarterbacks coach and then the team’s offensive coordinator as Mahomes was arriving in 2017.

Nagy would take the Bears’ job in 2018 and helped Chicago return to the playoffs for the first time in nearly a decade. He’d ultimately win AP Coach of the Year honors for 2018 and lead the Bears back to the playoffs in 2020, but after failing to win a postseason game in Chicago, Nagy was let go after the 2021 season.

He has since returned to Kansas City, where the Chiefs struggled in 2025 amidst a series of injuries, including the torn ACL that ended Mahomes’ season. Significantly, Nagy was part of the coaching staff that guided the Chiefs over the Ravens in the 2023 AFC Championship.

Other potential candidates in Baltimore include fired Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, and Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

Kliff Kingsbury is another name to keep an eye on after he and the Washington Commanders agreed to part ways.
