Despite reported concerns over traffic and tax dollars, some business owners say a domed stadium will mean a major economic boost.Come 2031, the whole area near the KCK Speedway could look completely different. “I joke with my staff. We’re now the bologna in the sandwich between the speedway and the Chiefs and Buc-cee’s,” said Steve Beaumont, owner of Chateau Avalon. Especially if the Chiefs build a dome stadium near the Legends. “So there’s a lot more to it than just, you know, meets the eye. people say chiefs, but really they don’t represent 25% of what that can bring out here,” Beamont said. Beaumont said a stadium like that could hold 80 events per year and bring lots of guests to the hotel. “It’s not just the, the number of events, it’s the volume of people per event, right?” Beaumont said.The hotel on the hill is already a busy place during NASCAR weekend, and they expect even more visitors when the Buc-cee’s opens up nearby. “They have made a cohesive effort from the state all the way down to the local municipality that we’re open for business, and we’re going to grow. It’s a game changer for not just the Chateau Avalon and the resort, but it’s a changer for everybody in this region,” Beaumont said.The hotel is currently being remodeled, hopefully in time for the World Cup. On the Kansas side, concerns remain over the cost of public safety, including money for roads, power, and how many additional police officers may be required.The mayor and CEO of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas, Christal Watson, said, “No agreements have been finalized. No commitments have been locked in.”
