Many mock drafts have the New York Jets selecting Oregon quarterback Dante Moore at No. 2 overall in the 2026 draft. Moore hasn’t officially declared for the draft yet. His disappointing performance in which he turned over the ball three times in the College Football Playoff Semifinal loss to Indiana could force the Jets to consider their alternatives.
Moore should announce his decision this week, whether he’s declaring or returning to Oregon. The rebuilding Jets should have serious questions about his ability to deliver instant success at the next level. If Moore doesn’t declare, or if the Jets aren’t convinced by his trajectory, could they pair a rookie quarterback on Day 2 of the draft with a veteran?
The Jets are scheduled to possess two second-round picks and a fourth-rounder as well. The 2026 NFL draft could feature some interesting quarterback talent in that range. Ole Miss‘ Trinidad Chambliss put on a clinic during the College Football Playoff. Chambliss is attempting to apply for another year of eligibility, but there’s no guarantee he’s granted it.
Miami’s Carson Beck and LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier are also intriguing reclamation quarterbacks. Beck will lead the Miami Hurricanes versus perceived No. 1 pick Fernando Mendoza and the Indiana Hoosiers in the National Championship.
Moore may not declare for the draft. If he does, the Jets may no longer view him as a surefire lock at No. 2 overall. Darren Mougey should consider all options, including quarterbacks like Chambliss, Beck, and Nussmeier on Day 2 of the draft.
