The Arizona Cardinals took to X earlier this month to wish head coach Jonathan Gannon a happy birthday.
Unfortunately for Gannon, a day later he was fired by the organization. You can check out the post wishing him a happy birthday here.
Jonathan Gannon was fired after spending three seasons as the Cardinals head coach. Arizona went 3-14 in 2025 and was 15-36 in Gannon’s three years.
“This morning we spoke with Jonathan Gannon and let him know that we were going to go in a different direction with our head coach,” Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said when announcing Gannon’s firing. “Jonathan is a very smart, motivated, enthusiastic, intelligent, awesome coach. He and his staff… their families give so much sacrifice to this organization.
“We’re so appreciative of what he put into this organization. He made us better, but I think as you all know, this is a league about wins and losses. The wins and losses speak for themselves, especially this year. We just felt like we were going in the wrong direction and we needed to change course.”
Prior to being the head coach of the Cardinals, Gannon was the defensive coordinator of the Eagles in 2021 and 2022.
He has also been on staff in the NFL with the Colts, Vikings, Titans and Falcons.
Fans certainly noticed that the Cardinals wished Gannon a happy birthday the day before firing him. Replies to the post were filled with comments acknowledging the irony.
“Happy birthday! Your gift is… you’re fired,” one fan said.
Another added: “Take a long multi year celebratory trip someplace!”
