The San Francisco 49ers opened up a spot on their practice squad on Tuesday when they placed tight end George Kittle on injured reserve and brought up Brayden Willis to the 53-man roster.

On Wednesday, the 49ers have reportedly filled that spot on the practice squad, as NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported that the team is signing Darrick Forrest.

Forrest, 26, played collegiately at Cincinnati from 2017-20, earning All-AAC honors once. The Washington Commanders (then Football Team) took him in the fifth round (No. 163 overall) of the 2021 NFL draft.

In four seasons in Washington, he appeared in 40 games, starting 17 and recording 137 tackles, nine passes defensed, four interceptions and two forced fumbles. This year, he’s had stints with the Buffalo Bills, Indianapolis Colts and Pittsburgh Steelers but hasn’t played an actual game.
