The Carolina Panthers are always open to improving.

President of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan spoke with reporters on Tuesday, capping off a rather successful season for the organization. Morgan’s Panthers have walked away from 2025 with the franchise’s first playoff berth since 2017 and their first NFC South title since 2015.

But that doesn’t mean they’re fine with where they’re at.

Morgan was asked if he’s comfortable with head coach Dave Canales continuing in his role of calling offensive plays, a topic Canales himself addressed on Sunday. And while he believes Canales has done a great job of handling all of his duties, Morgan didn’t exactly rule out a change.

“I think that’s really his [Canales’] call,” he stated. “I think if he wants to promote somebody into being the play-caller or bring somebody from the outside. We haven’t really talked about that. But that is something that I’m sure we’ll talk about. We talk about every decision together.

“If he feels like he needs to add somebody or promote somebody into being the play-caller, then I trust him.”

Carolina’s offense did take a small step back across the ranks in 2025, where they averaged 295.6 yards and 18.3 points per game. 2024, in Canales’ first season, saw them go for 298.0 yards and 20.1 points per contest.

Morgan was later asked if he’d also consider adding a new quarterback to develop behind starter Bryce Young.

“Yeah, absolutely,” he replied. “And I think we wanna add competition to every room. Quarterback’s no different. So, yeah, that could be something that we do this offseason.”

That’s something Morgan and Canales did in 2024, when they signed undrafted free agent Jack Plummer. Plummer played two preseasons in Carolina before being waived this past August.

Outside of Young, the only other Panthers quarterback under contract for 2026 is 38-year-old Andy Dalton—who would be entering his 16th NFL season.
