The Washington Commanders are looking for a new defensive coordinator after firing Joe Whitt Jr. from the position, and they have turned to a recently fired head coach.

The Commanders on Thursday interviewed Jonathan Gannon for their defensive coordinator vacancy. Gannon was fired by the Arizona Cardinals after the regular season ended. He had been their head coach for three seasons and went 15-36. His teams finished last in the NFC West three times.

Prior to being hired by the Cardinals as their head coach, Gannon had served as the Philadelphia Eagles’ defensive coordinator for two seasons.

In addition to Gannon, the Commanders have interviewed several candidates for their defensive coordinator vacancy. That includes: Patrick Graham, Joe Cullen, Dennard Wilson, Brian Flores and Karl Scott.

Gannon has received interest from the Dallas Cowboys and Tennessee Titans about their defensive coordinator vacancies. So despite being fired as a head coach, he appears likely to land another job for next season.
