The New York Giants are set to have former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh take over the same role for their franchise in 2026 – but a day and a half after that news broke, the two parties are still working on finalizing a contract.
Reports on Wednesday night indicated Harbaugh was on his way to New York to lead the organization on the sidelines. But according to NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Giants and Harbaugh were still working to iron out the final details of a contract between the two on Friday afternoon. Schefter reported that the final issues concern the language of the agreement, not financial matters. He also said that one source reports that the contract is still expected to be finalized.
“There’s no derailment and nothing has changed,” Schefter said the source reported.
While the reassurances from inside sources that the deal will be finalized are positive, fans will still be anxious for the ink to hit paper and solidify the franchise’s head coach. And the sooner Harbaugh can begin his work, the better, as the NFL Draft is just a few months away and the Giants will hold the No. 5 pick, giving them a chance to add significantly to a roster already brimming with young talent.
The Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll this past season after the Giants started 2-8 in his fourth season on the job. He finished his tenure with the franchise with an overall record of 20-40-1, and the Giants finished the 2025 regular season 4-13.
