The offensive coordinator search has begun for the Los Angeles Chargers after parting ways with Greg Roman.
LA started the OC search with two internal candidates, interviewing pass game coordinator Marcus Brady and quarterbacks coach Shane Day.
Recent news reveals that the Bolts are looking outside the current coaching staff and looking at experienced coaches to fill Roman’s role.
Interviewing Former Head Coach

With the team’s parting ways with head coaches and other offensive coordinators, the Los Angeles Chargers can snag a popular option in the coaching market.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has revealed that the Los Angeles Chargers will interview former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel for their offensive coordinator job.
McDaniel served as the head coach of the Dolphins franchise for the previous four seasons, recording a 35-33 overall record.
If the Bolts were to hire the former Dolphins HC, he could play a crucial role on the offensive coaching staff and help bring out the best in Justin Herbert.
Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa played his best football under McDaniel in Miami, throwing for 4,624 yards in the 2023 season, the most in the league. Tua also recorded 29 touchdown passes, the most in a single season in his career. In the same season, Miami had the second-highest scoring offense in the 2023 NFL season, averaging 29.2 points per game.
Miami had the 13th-best run offense this season, averaging 120.2 yards per game.
With a franchise quarterback and a promising running back in Omarion Hampton, the former Dolphin head coach landing in LA would seem like an ideal rebound job.
McDaniel is also receiving some head coaching nods, as he also interviewed for the Baltimore Ravens vacant head coaching spot.
If the Chargers want McDaniel as their next OC, they’d better get moving quickly, as he is a hot name in the coaching market.
Other Options For Offensive Coordinator

Outside of Mike McDaniel, the Los Angeles Chargers have already interviewed a former head coach for their vacant coordinator job.
LA has announced that they have interviewed Brian Callahan, who previously served as head coach for the Tennessee Titans for the previous two seasons, but was unable to complete the 2025 season with the franchise. In his tenure as HC, Callahan led the Titans to an overall record of 4-19.
Callahan has Super Bowl experience as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals back in the 2021 season.
During his time in Cincy (2019-23), Callahan had one of the best scoring offenses in the league when Joe Burrow was healthy.
The Bengals offense averaged 27.1 points per game in the 2021 season and 26.1 per game in the 2022 season, both the seventh-highest in the league.
LA will continue to look at options before deciding who will be the best OC to pair up with Justin Herbert and the offense.
