The 2025 All-Imperial Valley League Flag Football Team features thirty players, seven of whom also garnered All-CIF-San Diego selections.

The All-IVL Flag Football Team is led by 2025 Offensive Player of the Year Vincent Memorial Catholic High sophomore quarterback Azul Trujillo.

“Azul’s special; she’s young, but she understands the game and makes the reads and the throws,” Vincent Memorial coach Ivan Mendez said. “Sometimes she will suggest changes to the offense, and we may or may not make them, but I listen to her because she knows the game.”

In addition to being the IVL’s POY, Trujillo was named the Sophomore Flag Football Player of the Year on the Maxpreps.com California All-State Flag Football Team.

According to the Maxpreps, the official stats vehicle for the CIF-SDS, Trujillo broke the national single-season records for passing yards and total yards in the 2025 season.

“If anyone wonders how she got so many passing yards, it’s because we didn’t have a run game; we didn’t run the ball at all like other teams,” Mendez said of the Scots, who captured the CIF-SDS Division II championship.

“But she is training and working to become a better runner…she knows what she needs to do to improve, to work on her running game, to become more of a threat.”

Adding to her honors, Trujillo was named to the All-IVL First Team Offense while also being selected to the All-CIF-San Diego Section First Team Offense.

Joining Trujillo on both the All-IVL First Team Offense and the All-CIF-San Diego Section First Team Offense was Imperial Tiger senior quarterback Mirella Barron, who was also named to the Maxpreps California All-State Flag Football Offense First Team.

Joining Barron on the All-IVL Flag Football First Team Offense from the IVL Champion Imperial was junior Addison Clark, an All-CIF-SDS selection, while Tiger freshman Aryssa Hellum was a Second Team Offense selection.

“Vincent and ourselves each finished tied in the standings; however, because we won the second game between us, according to CIF we were designated as league champions,” Imperial coach Victor Cruz, Jr., said. “The players and the awards for the players were voted on by all the IVL coaches.”

The other members of the 2025 All-IVL Flag Football First Team Offense were Brawley Wildcat senior Jacey Reeves, another All-CIF-SDS selection; Calexico Bulldog senior Arellana Garcia; Southwest Eagle senior Amanda Ramirez; and Central Spartan senior Jaylah Conner.

The All-IVL Flag Football Second Team Offense includes Vincent Memorial junior Gala Cervantes, Calexico senior Giovanna Ortiz, Brawley junior Demi Cornejo, Southwest junior Amber Montes, Central freshman Kailanie Lane, and Holtville senior Maddie Price.

A two-way star for Vincent Memorial, junior Jessica Manriquez, was named the 2025 IVL’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Manriquez, who, as per Maxpreps, set a national single-season record for receiving yards on offense, scoring 43 touchdowns, had eight interceptions returned for touchdowns on defense.

“Defense is actually not Jessica’s strong suit, but she makes great reads on passes and she jumps or cuts off a route to get to the ball,” Mendez said. “Jessica doesn’t appear fast on the field, but she has great anticipation and gets to the ball on offense or defense.”

In the Scots pass-only offense, Manriquez attracted multiple defenders.

“Jessica’s a team player; she knew she’d get heavy red-zone coverage and that the other receivers would seal the deal and get the touchdowns,” Mendez said. “She did the heavy lifting; she stretched the field and drew double coverage, and that made it easy on our offense.”

Along with Manriquez on the 2025 All-IVL Flag Football First Team Defense are two Imperial seniors, Clarissa Davila, who was named to the All-CIF-SDS First Team Defense, and Aryssa Garcia.

Another All-CIF-SDS selection, Brawley junior Jayana Montoya, was also named to the All-IVL Flag Football First Team Defense, along with Calexico senior Yanelle Gil, Southwest sophomore America Montenegro, and Central senior Blanca Suarez.

The 2025 All-IVL Flag Football Second Team Defense includes Imperial senior Citali Cardona, Vincent Memorial junior Valentina Lopez, Brawley senior Jacey Reeves, Calexico junior Lizbeth Ortiz, Southwest senior Aaliyah Booth, Central sophomore Samantha Ruiz, and Holtville junior Kadence Toten.

For his work in guiding the Imperial Tigers to the IVL Championship in the third season of flag football, Cruz was voted the 2025 IVL Coach of the Year.

“This is the first time that I am getting the award, and it’s always nice to be recognized for the job you did,” Cruz said. “But really, I didn’t play in any games, so the award is really for the girls who were on the field and did their best.”

Cruz also shared that the Coach of the Year award was special, coming from his peers.

“I’m thankful for the other coaches in the Valley who voted for me,” Cruz said. “It’s special because for now, we seem to be cultivating a strong community among ourselves as coaches.”
