The New York Giants quarterback problem has evolved from not having a starting signal-caller to having several options under center.

The Giants brought in veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston during free agency, kept Tommy DeVito on the roster, and drafted Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. What was the biggest question heading into the offseason turned into a dream scenario.

Former Giants running back Rashad Jennings joined Good Morning Football to discuss the quarterback situation. With many now clamoring for Dart to start in Week 1 over Wilson, Jennings urges patience. He says that Wilson is there to allow Dart the time to develop as a quarterback and that Wilson should lead this team while Dart is mentored by Winston.

“Jameis Winston — he is the morale of the locker room. He is the positive energy. He is the voice, the veteran that teaches these guys how to become pros. While who is doing the work? That is Russell Wilson collaborating with the one of the greatest receivers (Malik Nabers),” he said. “So I think you have to start with Russ.”

Jennings goes on to talk about how the Giants did this with Eli Manning, the quarterback Jennings played with from 2014-2016. Manning was given the time to develop while Kurt Warner ran the offense on the field through nine games.

Having Winston as a mentor for Dart not only allows Wilson to focus on winning games, but his experience as a former No. 1 draft pick with lofty expectations he never quite met, perhaps he can help Dart avoid some of those pitfalls.

The Giants truly have the best situation in their quarterback room. Two notable veterans in Wilson and Winston, a familiar face in DeVito, and a future franchise quarterback who will have the time he needs to acclimate to the NFL game before being tasked with running the offense.

If they can’t make this work, the problem isn’t the players.
