Tennessee football is still on the hunt to add another scholarship quarterback to the roster. While the Vols missed on some big-name targets at the position this off-season, Josh Heupel and company seem to be comfortable heading into next season starting either redshirt-freshman George MacIntyre or true freshman Faizon Brandon.
Even if one of those two wins the job, adding another signal caller into the room may be necessary from a depth standpoint. In that effort, Tennessee is hosting Colorado transfer Ryan Staub on Sunday, according to a report from On3.
Staub just completed his redshirt-sophomore season at Colorado. He played in five games for the Buffs this past year, starting in one. He was joined by former Vol Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis in their quarterback room.
During the 2025 campaign, Staub completed 30-of-55 passes for 427 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions. He also ran for 30 yards and a score.

Staub played in four games in his redshirt-freshman season in 2024. In 2023, played in three games and started in one. He was a three-star prospect out of high school.
This gives Staub two years of eligibility remaining. He has garnered interest from some other significant programs across the country this portal cycle, but many of those schools have already filled their quarterback rooms, like LSU.
If Staub did commit to Tennessee, he’d likely be involved in a three-way quarterback battle with MacIntyre and Brandon. Even if he didn’t win, having a veteran presence in the room that has played college football at the Power Four level before could go a long way.
So far, Tennessee has landed 15 commitments in the portal. Just three are on offense, featuring offensive tackle Ory Williams from LSU, running back Javin Gordon from Tulane and tight end Trent Thomas from South Alabama.
