Former Kansas City Chiefs long snapper Kendall Gammon shows his dancing skills as one of eight contestants in this year’s “Dancing with the Kansas City Stars.”

The annual fundraiser raises more than $1 million for Cristo Rey, a private high school serving low-income families in Kansas City. Students in the work-study program, from ninth through twelfth grade, gain corporate experience, with some working at banks or construction companies for all four years of high school.

“I’ve been very fortunate in my life. I mean, I threw a football between my legs for 15 years,” Gammon said to KCTV5 News. “But it has afforded me the option to do some things like this and help people. If I’ve got that soapbox, I’m going to do the best I can with it.”

Gammon was selected 291st overall in the 11th round of the 1992 NFL draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing there from 1992 to 1995. He next spent four years with the New Orleans Saints, until signing with the Chiefs in 2000. He was the first pure long snapper to be selected for the Pro Bowl in 2004, representing the Chiefs.

The 15-year NFL veteran has also worked on the broadcasting side, covering Chiefs games. He brings his talents to the event, marking the competition’s 20th anniversary.
