The Buffalo Bills thanked head coach Sean McDermott in a tribute video on Monday following his firing after the team’s 33-30 loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Round.
“For nearly a decade I have had the opportunity to wake up every morning as the Head Coach of the Buffalo Bills, which has truly been a gift,” McDermott said, in part, in his own statement. “… I am proud and humbled to have worked alongside amazing staff and players as we shared life together and poured out our hearts and souls into both winning football games and making a positive impact in our community.”
The 51-year-old led the Bills to a 98-50 record in his nine seasons, making eight playoff appearances. Buffalo never reached the Super Bowl during his tenure, however, likely the primary impetus for his removal.
