The Buffalo Bills took a heartbreaking overtime 33-30 loss to the Denver Broncos in the AFC divisional round. Two days later, the Bills made the surprising decision to fire head coach Sean McDermott.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen has only known McDermott as his head coach since the team traded up to draft him as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft. Together, they’ve won five consecutive AFC East titles and made two AFC Championship game appearances.

Numerous current and former Bills players have spoken out against the decision to give McDermott the axe, but Allen has not shared a public statement.

The 29-year-old quarterback was an emotional wreck following their loss to Denver. Saying goodbye to his head coach of eight years is likely difficult to put into words, even if he had a role in his dismissal.

While Allen processes another failed attempt to reach the Super Bowl and his coach’s sudden departure, he has the support of his wife, Hailee Steinfeld. The couple announced in December that they’re expecting their first child together.

In the latest issue of Steinfeld’s newsletter, she described her reaction to watching the Bills’ thrilling wild-card win over the Jacksonville Jaguars while getting ready for the Golden Globes. She also announced that just a few days after the Bills-Broncos showdown, she’ll be hosting her first Substack Live.

However, fans looking forward to the event on Tuesday got some last-minute bad news.

“We’ll have more award show behind-the-scenes coming next week,” Steinfeld teased in her newsletter. “On Tuesday, I’m doing my first Substack Live with my friend and fellow Substack writer Derek Blasberg. We’ll chat about the Globes and break down past award-show looks and the stories behind them…Tune in!”

However, the event was suddenly cancelled. “Hi beau society,” she wrote on the newsletter’s Instagram page. “we’re rescheduling the substack live with @derekblasberg today! we will share the new time and date here as soon as we’re back on.”

Hailee Steinfeld Caught Strays During The Bills-Broncos Game

Steinfeld stays away from TV cameras and avoids posting on social media while attending Allen’s games, but the Broncos put the Oscar-nominated actress front and center at Mile High Stadium.

Back in 2016, Steinfeld attended Super Bowl 50 during which the Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-10. She posted a photo on social media of herself in a Broncos starter jacket on Feb. 7, 2016, and wrote, “HELL YEAH BRONCOS!!!! 💥.”

There’s also video of the “Sinners” star dancing at the game. These social media posts are from 10 years ago, long before she started dating Allen in May 2023 and became the Queen of Buffalo. However, the Broncos took a fan’s painting of the photo and plastered it on jumbotron during the AFC showdown.

ESPN’s Bills reporter Alaina Getzenberg took a photo of the moment and posted it on X with a skull emoji. The post racked nearly 500,000 views by halftime.

Allen addressed the decade-old photo of his wife supporting the Broncos a few days before the game. CBS Sports Tracy Wolfson posted, “Asked Josh about this pic and he told me he had no idea it was floating around. Laughed and said she was probably paid to be there. And that he definitely wasn’t going to bring it up at home. 😂.”
