Over the past eight days, the Pittsburgh Steelers have dove into their head coaching search, interviewing several different candidates for the vacancy left by Mike Tomlin’s resignation. It appears one of those options will soon be off the board, if he isn’t already.
The Steelers virtually interviewed Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter on Saturday. Minter has also spoken to the Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders and Baltimore Ravens, among other jobs that have already been filled. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on X that Minter was slated to meet with the Ravens in person on Wednesday.
Steelers Now can confirm that the Steelers believe Minter is going to take the Ravens’ job. NFL insider Jason La Canfora believes the attraction between Minter and Baltimore is mutual. Minter worked as an assistant on John Harbaugh’s Ravens staff from 2017-20.
“Execs from multiple NFL front offices who are conducting head coaching searches believe the Ravens are moving close to a final decision and strongly anticipate Chargers DC Jesse Minter getting the job,” La Canfora wrote Wednesday on X. “The industry also expected Minter in BAL before Harbaugh was let go, FWIW.”

Minter spent two campaigns as Michigan’s defensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh from 2022-23, helping the Wolverines win a College Football Playoff national title during his second season there. He followed Jim Harbaugh to Los Angeles after that, and has been the Bolts’ defensive coordinator the last two go-rounds.
Steelers reporter Mark Kaboly told 93.7 The Fan that he feels Minter is out of the running for the Steelers’ head coaching vacancy.
The Steelers have also interviewed Chris Shula, Nate Scheelhaase, Brian Flores, Anthony Weaver, Ejiro Evero and Klay Kubiak. They have another interview scheduled with Mike McCarthy.
