Could the Jacksonville Jaguars be searching for a new defensive coordinator in the coming days?

Defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile reportedly has a second head coaching interview with the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday. The interview will take place in-person.

If Liam Coen does have to find a new defensive coordinator — or offensive coordinator with Grant Udinski interviewing for other openings as well — he discussed that possibility recently.

“It’s the frustrating part about success,” Coen said, via Action Sports Jax. “It’s why it’s always such a challenge to reload in this business and continue to win. I think both of those guys are going to get multiple opportunities.

“It’s definitely something you want them to go through this process — I was fortunate enough to go through this process — and you don’t want to hold guys back. But, hey look, it’s my job to go find others too.”

So in the event that Campanile heads elsewhere, who could Coen bring in as the Jaguars‘ next defensive coordinator?

Raheem Morris

Morris has been the Falcons’ head coach for the last two seasons before being let go recently. He was the defensive coordinator for the LA Rams when they won their Super Bowl. Of note, however, Morris has relationships with Kyle Shanahan and Matt LaFleur, both of whom are looking for a defensive coordinator as well.

Aubrey Pleasant

Pleasant has not held the title of defensive coordinator, but his coaching background is rooted in the defensive back position. Pleasant has spent the last two seasons with the Rams and Sean McVay as the defensive passing game coordinator and assistant coach.

Mathieu Araujo

The Jaguars are reportedly hiring Arajuo to be their next cornerbacks coach. However, with Araujo interviewing with the New York Jets for their defensive coordinator opening, could Coen look to promote him if Campanile heads elsewhere?

Daronte Jones

Jones has been a popular defensive coordinator candidate this hiring cycle, with several interviews already. He has spent the last few seasons in Minnesota operating under Brian Flores’ blitz-heavy and aggressive defensive scheme.

Jonathan Gannon

Another former head coach. Gannon’s Arizona teams did not find success during his tenure, but as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator, Gannon appeared in a Super Bowl in 2022 and had one of the most disruptive defenses in football that season.

Jim Schwartz

Schwartz is interviewing for the Browns‘ head coaching job after being on staff as the defensive coordinator. However, if he does not land that role, he could look to be a defensive coordinator elsewhere.

Ephraim Banda

Banda has been the safeties coach in Cleveland for the last three seasons under Schwartz. He has interviewed for the Jets and Cowboys defensive coordinator openings this offseason. He could bring a similar defensive scheme to Jacksonville as Schwartz.

Al Harris

Wherever Harris has been as a defensive backs coach — Dallas or Chicago — his secondaries have produced takeaways at a very high level.
