The Pittsburgh Steelers potentially lost out on a top head coach candidate, as Brian Flores looks to be gearing up to remain the Minnesota Vikings’ defensive coordinator for the foreseeable future.
Flores, whose three-year deal with Minnesota was through the end of the 2025 regular season, signed a contract extension with the Vikings on Wednesday, seemingly dashed the hopes of him becoming the Steelers’ next head coach.
One of the brightest defensive minds in the league, Flores drew a lot of interest during the 2026 coaching carousel — but the Vikings frequently reiterated their interest in keeping him.
A reunion, while unlikely, with the Steelers is still technically possible despite Flores’ new extension with Minnesota. Still, Pittsburgh still have several top head coach candidates to consider — such as Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula.
