For the first time in two decades, the Pittsburgh Steelers are on the hunt for a new head coach following Mike Tomlin’s sudden resignation.
While Tomlin had a ton of success during his 19 seasons with the Steelers, it was time for a change. Pittsburgh had stagnated in recent years, failing to win a playoff game since early 2017.
Replacing Tomlin won’t be easy, but it gives the Steelers a chance for a fresh start with a new leader, a new voice and a new perspective.
Former quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who played for Tomlin for 15 seasons, recently shared his thoughts on what he wants to see from Pittsburgh’s new head coach.
“My first thought is I want an offensive-minded head coach. That’s what I would do if I was the general manager,” Roethlisberger said on a recent episode of his “Footbahlin” podcast. “I’m ready for an offensive guy. I wanna score more than six points in a postseason game.”

Roethlisberger has watched Pittsburgh’s offense consistently sputter without him, and he’s seen enough, especially after his former team failed to score a touchdown in its lone playoff game this season. The Steelers were a defense-minded team under Tomlin, but a new coach could reignite the team and give the offense a boost.
Roethlisberger wants someone young and innovative, not a retread like Mike McCarthy. Especially if Aaron Rodgers comes back, they need to get the most out of him and his supporting cast before he retires.
