Things didn’t go the way that Washington Commanders would have hoped during the 2025 NFL season.

After making it all the way to the NFC Championship Game in 2024, the Commanders missed the playoffs entirely in ’25 after finishing 5-12. As a result, some roster changes are on the horizon, including potentially in the backfield.

Commanders predicted to sign Breece Hall in free agency

In a recent article, ESPN’s Aaron Schatz predicts that the Commanders will land New York Jets star running back Breece Hall in free agency.

From Schatz:

“The Commanders will make a big splash by signing running back Breece Hall, a talented rusher and receiver who will be just 25 years old next season.

“Rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt didn’t end up taking the league by storm, and Chris Rodriguez Jr. wasn’t spectacular either. Washington finished 23rd in run offense DVOA this season.”

Hall rushed for a career-high 1,065 yards for the New York Jets this past season while also adding 350 receiving yards. He’s a legitimate dual-threat back, who could add a new dimension to Washington’s offensive attack if acquired.

His presence in the backfield in Washington could help to open things up for quarterback Jayden Daniels, who struggled during his sophomore season after a breakout rookie campaign.

Hall will likely have no shortage of suitors in free agency, so there’s no guarantee that Washington will be able to land him, but he would certainly be a nice addition for a Commanders team looking to bounce back after a flop of a season.
