Before the Atlanta Falcons can begin assembling their roster for the 2026 NFL season, they must hire a new general manager. The team has interviewed six candidates for its GM vacancy, and more are expected to follow in the coming week.

The first thing on the new general manager’s agenda will be to determine the fate of Atlanta’s free agents. Several key players are set to hit the market in 2026, including tight end Kyle Pitts, linebacker Kaden Elliss and running back Tyler Allgeier.

According to Over The Cap’s projections, the Falcons have about $17.5 million in salary cap space available. While there are always creative ways to create cap space, the team is unlikely to be a major player in free agency. This means Atlanta will have to let some talented players walk out the door.

Pro Football Focus put together a list of the best landing spots for the 10 highest-graded offensive free agents. The only Falcons player listed was Allgeier. PFF felt the Dallas Cowboys would be the best fit for the former fifth-round pick in free agency.

The Cowboys saw a resurgence in their ability to run the football this season, a credit to Klayton Adams’ prowess in establishing the ground game. Williams turned out a career year (81.7 PFF rushing grade); however, the depth behind him left much to be desired. With Williams scheduled to enter free agency – albeit with the possibility of returning to Dallas – the Cowboys should invest more into this backfield.

Although he’s been overshadowed by Bijan Robinson in Atlanta, Allgeier is quietly one of the NFL’s most productive backs. His 84.0 PFF rushing grade ranks top five among qualifying running backs over the last two seasons while also not fumbling a single time over that span. As a premier zone runner, Allgeier would fit in well with the Cowboys’ inside zone-heavy scheme. – Mason Cameron, PFF

As a rookie, Allgeier rushed for over 1,000 yards, a feat that even Falcons running back Bijan Robinson didn’t achieve. However, the team has always seemed to view Allgeier as a complementary back. He’s not the fastest or the most elusive, but Allgeier can wear out opposing defenses with his power.

We’ve routinely seen him plow through defenders in the fourth quarter when defenses are tired. Losing Allgeier wouldn’t be ideal, but Robinson has clearly shown to be capable of shouldering the load.

Coincidentally, the Falcons were named the best fit for Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens.

“Pairing George Pickens with Drake London would create one of the NFLs most electric receiver duos and set the young quarterback up for success,” added PFF’s Mason Cameron.
