Miami Dolphins senior passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik has reportedly agreed to terms to become the team’s offensive coordinator under new head coach Jeff Hafley, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday.
The 38-year-old Slowik was the Houston Texans’ offensive coordinator in 2023 and 2024 before the team parted ways with him.
He arrived in Miami under former head coach Mike McDaniel, who was relieved of his duties after four seasons. Slowik will stay aboard under Hafley, who arrived in town after two seasons as the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator.
Before Slowik’s arrival, the Texans were 30th in scoring and last in yards per play. Houston underwent a coaching change in 2023, bringing in former Texans linebacker and San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as head coach.
The Texans also selected Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud with the second overall draft pick. Houston’s offense made a big leap in year one of this new era, finishing 13th in scoring, winning 10 games and even earning an AFC South title and playoff victory.
Slowik received head coaching interest for his work, interviewing with the Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders, per Ryan Young of Yahoo Sports. In the end, Slowik stayed with Houston.
The Texans’ offense regressed in 2024, however, at No. 19 in scoring. The Texans also finished 22nd in yards per play after landing 13th the year prior.
Slowik was relieved of his duties and ended up with the Dolphins. Miami didn’t fare particularly well offensively in 2025, and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was benched near the end of the season for rookie Quinn Ewers. The team finished 14th in yards per play and 25th in scoring, albeit with star wideout Tyreek Hill out for all but the team’s first three games with a serious knee injury.
Still, there’s no denying that Slowik brings some plusses.
He coached and learned under San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan for six years (2017-2022), working his way up to offensive passing game coordinator in 2022.
Slowik certainly gained a great reputation for his work with the 2023 Texans as well, as evidenced by his numerous head coaching interviews.
