While most of the focus tonight has been on the Tennessee Titans‘ offensive coordinator and the dwindling pool of candidates, another potential defensive coordinator candidate has been identified.

Ian Rapoport reports that Robert Saleh will be interviewing Houston Texans defensive backs coach Dino Vasso for the coordinator position. Vasso may not be a household name, but he has the support of veteran coordinators Matt Burke and Jim Schwartz, who quietly recommended him for openings.

The 38-year-old coach has worked his way up the ladder in the NFL, starting off with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2013 as a coaching assistant, before moving to Philadelphia in 2016, where he transitioned from quality control coach to assistant defensive coordinator in 2020. He moved to Houston in 2021 and has helped build the secondary for the NFL’s top defense.

Although Saleh intends to call the defensive plays, the coordinator position in Nashville would provide valuable experience in game planning and implementing a system with a highly successful defensive mind. Vasso will now join Al Harris and Aaron Whitecotton as known candidates for the open defensive coordinator position and will work hand-in-hand with Saleh in building the Titans’ defense.
