When the Baltimore Ravens and former head coach John Harbaugh parted ways after the 2025-26 season, this name had come up on nearly every shortlist of NFL media that speculated on who the Baltimore Ravens would end up hiring.

Just a few weeks later, most of the experts were right. On Thursday, the Baltimore Ravens announced the hiring of Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator, Jesse Minter as their next head coach, the fourth in the history of the franchise.

“I am truly honored to serve as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens,” Minter said in a statement. “This is an organization whose values, culture and tradition of excellence reflect everything I believe about the game of football and how it should be played.”

Minter is no stranger to the Ravens, who he helped coach from 2017-2020. Minter served as a defensive assistant and also worked with the defensive backs in his time with the Ravens, who were coached then by John Harbaugh. After spending as season at Vanderbilt, Minter was hired by another Harbaugh, John’s brother Jim, who was the head coach at Michigan.

Following two seasons as the UM defensive coordinator, Minter left Michigan following the Wolverines national championship, joining Harbaugh on the sidelines in Los Angeles for two seasons, prior to his return to Baltimore.

“Jesse was impressive throughout our incredibly thorough interview process,” Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti said in a statement. “He clearly understands the values, high expectations and history of the Ravens, and he has a great vision for the future. Jesse’s football acumen is outstanding, and that’s been proven by the impact he’s made throughout his entire coaching career.”

Minter, who has had a close relationship with the Harbaugh brothers over the years, will actually meet his former boss, Jim next season as the Ravens and Chargers are scheduled to play each other during the 2026-27 season.
