The Dallas Cowboys got to reject the Philadelphia Eagles in a big way over the weekend, according to the latest coaching update from around the NFC East. And it’s one that involves none other than Cowboys offensive coordinator Klayton Adams.
Cowboys deny Eagles’ interview request
The Eagles requested to interview Adams for their opening at offensive coordinator, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. Understandably, the Cowboys blocked their division rival’s request.
Since it would be a lateral move for Adams, the Cowboys have the right to block the interview, even if Adams would likely earn play-calling duties in Philadelphia under head coach Nick Sirianni.
After an underwhelming season on offense, the Eagles are searching for a replacement for Kevin Patullo at offensive coordinator. They have cast a wide net so far, including former Houston Texans OC Bobby Slowik, former Kansas City Chiefs OC Matt Nagy, and even former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, among others.
Adams is the latest name to emerge on their search, though not for long, as the Cowboys are making sure he stays in Dallas. If anything, the news is yet another piece of evidence showing Adams is on NFL teams’ radar as a rising coach.

Adams keeps rising
In his first year as offensive coordinator, Adams was very impressive even without calling the plays. He led a top-five scoring offense alongside head coach Brian Schottenheimer — the team’s play caller — and played a major role in building it.
Specifically, Adams led the Cowboys’ efforts to overhaul the run game, which had grown stale over the years. Not by coincidence, running back Javonte Williams had a career year, totaling 1,201 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns.
Last year, Adams was listed as a head coach candidate to watch in future years by NFL Network’s insider Tom Pelissero. If the Cowboys’ offense gets even better in 2025, which it might with an improved offensive line and another year of George Pickens, Dallas won’t be able to keep blocking requests if teams come at Adams with head coaching offers.
