The “Tush Push” isn’t going anywhere — at least not in 2025.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has been pushing to ban the tush push, and he used the Green Bay Packers as the face of a campaign to outlaw the play perfected by the Philadelphia Eagles, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

“Green Bay’s” proposal to ban the tush push went to a vote on Wednesday. The league needed 24 owners to vote in favor of a ban. The final vote ended up being 22 in favor of a ban compared to 10 against — not enough to make a ban official.

The 10 teams that voted against a ban were the Eagles (obviously), Ravens, Browns, Lions, Jaguars, Dolphins, Patriots, Saints, Jets and Titans, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. That means the Denver Broncos, led by majority owner Greg Penner, voted to ban the tush push.

Broncos coach Sean Payton joked in 2023 that he was jealous he didn’t come up with the play himself.

“It’s just a version of the quarterback sneak, but with a little more to it,” Payton said in 2023. “Everyone is pushing, and it’s a scrum. Here’s one of the things you learn: You can’t control — if they vote to not allow it, then great. If they vote to leave it alone, then great. We’ll study it.”

The owners have the final say, and Payton hasn’t campaigned for or against the tush push.

“We’ll see what happens,” Payton said two years ago. “That’s something I don’t really worry about. If they allow it, then you look at how you can do it. If they don’t allow it, you move on and do something else.”

After the vote to ban the play failed on Wednesday, the tush push will remain in the game for at least one more year. Denver is set to travel to Philadelphia for a Week 5 showdown with the Eagles in October.
