The Eagles’ exhaustive search for a new offensive coordinator continues with a candidate they’ve interviewed before.

The Birds will reportedly speak with Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on Monday. The Eagles also interviewed Johnson in 2024 before hiring Kellen Moore.

Back in 2024, the Eagles did not cast this wide of a net. In fact, Johnson was one of just three known candidates that offseason. It was Johnson, Moore and Kliff Kingsbury and the Eagles ended up picking Moore and then went on to win a Super Bowl.

This year? The Eagles have interviewed a ton of candidates already as they look to replace Kevin Patullo after just one lackluster season.

Johnson, 37, has been the quarterbacks coach in Houston since the 2023 season. In his first year with the Texans, he helped coach C.J. Stroud to a Pro Bowl nod and an Offensive Rookie of the Year season. But in the two years that have followed, Stroud has clearly regressed.

Earlier this offseason, the Eagles interviewed former Texans OC Bobby Slowik for the offensive coordinator job but Slowik ended up staying in Miami as their OC under Jeff Hafley. Slowik was fired by the Texans after the 2024 season but Houston kept Johnson in his role as QBs coach.

Johnson does have some familiarity with head coach Nick Sirianni. He was with the Colts in 2019-2021, which means he spent two years on that staff when Sirianni was still the OC under Frank Reich. Johnson was there on the Bill Walsh Diversity coaching fellowship in 2019 and was a quality control coach the next two seasons before taking a job as the assistant QBs coach in Minnesota for a year.

Before becoming a coach, Johnson was a professional quarterback, although he never played a regular season game in the NFL. Johnson went undrafted out of Texas A&M in 2011.
