Former Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka is the latest candidate for the Eagles’ offensive coordinator vacancy to withdraw from consideration.

Kafka on Monday accepted a job on Dan Campbell’s coaching staff with the Lions, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported. Although his exact title isn’t known, Pelissero described it as a “high-ranking offensive role.” The Lions have already hired former Cards OC Drew Petzing as offensive coordinator, and Mark Brunell is their quarterbacks coach.

Kafka is the third candidate to replace Kevin Patullo who the Eagles learned on Monday is no longer available. LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. and Bears offensive coordinator Declan Doyle both withdrew from consideration on Monday to remain in their current jobs.

Kafka was drafted out of Northwestern by Andy Reid and the Eagles in the fourth round in 2010. He played in four games over two seasons with the Eagles, completing 11 of 16 passes for 107 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in 2011.

He was also with the Patriots, Jaguars, Buccaneers, Vikings, Titans and Bengals but never played another snap after leaving the Eagles.

Kafka began his NFL coaching career under Reid with the Chiefs in 2017 as an offensive quality control coach before becoming quarterbacks coach in 2018 and then adding passing game coordinator to his resume in 2020.

When Brian Daboll became Giants head coach in 2022, he brought in Kafka as offensive coordinator and assistant head coach. When Daboll was fired in November, Kafka served as interim coach the rest of the year.

He interviewed with the Eagles last week for their offensive coordinator vacancy.

Other candidates who are no longer available include former Dolphins head coach McDaniel, now the Chargers’ offensive coordinator; former Dolphins passing game coordinator Bobby Slowik, who is returning to Miami as offensive coordinator under new head coach Jeff Hafley; and former Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson, now Todd Bowles’ offensive coordinator in Tampa.

Among the candidates the Eagles have been linked who are till available are Daboll, former Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy, former Bucs offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard, Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter, Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson and Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith.
