Tanner McKee

The Philadelphia Eagles tend to dominate storylines in the offseason, and ESPN’s Benjamin Solak had a bold prediction for the birds: Why a trade of Tanner McKee to the Dolphins is possible.

“The quarterback factory spits out another trade, as the Eagles will deal QB2 Tanner McKee to the Dolphins in exchange for a middle-round pick. Somehow, this deal eventually gets folded into another team-saving trade just before November’s trade deadline. “

The Eagles have had turmoil from their offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo being fired, questions about AJ Brown potentially being traded, and even thoughts about quarterback AJ Brown performing below expectation.

*Prediction*

Tanner McKee is in a league where quarterbacks trump all, and for several teams like the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, they’re in need of a quarterback. Enter Tanner McKee

Philadelphia Eagles Trade Tanner McKee to the Miami Dolphins

The new Dolphins general manager mentioned in his press conference players that he viewed as cornerstones and they were: Patrick Paul, Jaylen Waddle, De’Von Achane, Aaron Brewer & Brooks.

This shows clearly that Tua Tagovailoa is not a lock to be the Dolphins franchise quarterback.

Now shifting it to the Philadelphia Eagles and McKee, this is a guy who has only started two NFL games, both in Week 18 of 2024 and 2025, but he is still being somewhat coveted by quarterback needy teams.

In those two games that he started, he went 27-of-41 for 269 passing yards and two touchdowns, and 21-of-40 for 250 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

When the Bengals were looking for a quarterback to replace the injured Joe Burrow, before they traded for Joe Flacco, they had a list that included Tanner McKee on it. This could have been because McKee had an excellent preseason where he went 20/25 for 252 passing yards and two touchdowns.

McKee is 6’6, 250 pounds, and at 25 years old has the prototypical size and age of someone who can still be a starting NFL quarterback.

While Solak only predicted the Dolphins give up a sixth rounder, this would have to be more like a fourth or fifth for the Eagles to move off of a high quality backup quarterback. Personally if I’m Miami, a team with three third rounders for the 2026 NFL Draft, I would give up draft capital if I believe that he can compete for the starting job.
