The Los Angeles Chargers have officially announced the newest addition to their team, Mike McDaniel, former Miami Dolphins head coach, as their offensive coordinator.

Coming about a week after the report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington stated that McDaniel was rumoured to be the team’s new offensive coordinator. Replacing Greg Roman, McDaniel made the news public on Monday morning that he will be making the switch to L.A.

McDaniel started off his NFL career under Mike Shanahan-led from the Denver Broncos as a coaching intern at the age of 22 in 2005. Since then, he has been with his fair share of teams, including the Houston Texans, Washington Redskins, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers.

He was the offensive coordinator for the 49ers until taking over the head coach position with the Miami Dolphins, where he had been coaching since 2022. Coaching the Dolphins to a 35-33 record in just a matter of four seasons until he was fired.

Known for his innovative motions, condensed formations and ability to connect with players, he is known to be one of the most consistent coaches and “one of the most creative offensive minds in football,” according to a statement released by the Chargers.
