The Colts have been predicted to re-sign Daniel Jones in free agency after his breakout campaign
The Indianapolis Colts had one of the more confusing 2025 campaigns across the NFL. Despite getting off to a red-hot start and taking the league by storm, the Colts eventually collapsed down the stretch of the season, thanks in large part to injuries. Now, the team has some big questions to answer over the offseason before they return to action.
The biggest question of the bunch involves the future of quarterback Daniel Jones, who enjoyed a breakout campaign before suffering a torn Achilles in Week 14. Whether or not Indianapolis wants to commit to Jones in the wake of this injury remains to be seen, and the team recently received an eye-opening prediction regarding its starting quarterback as free agency draws near.
Colts Predicted to Re-Sign Daniel Jones in Free Agency
Last offseason, the Colts signed Jones to a one-year deal in free agency to come in and compete with Anthony Richardson for the starting quarterback job. Jones ended up winning the gig, and he promptly turned himself into one of the top players at his position in the league. In 13 games, Jones threw for 3,101 yards and 19 touchdowns, while also rushing for 164 yards and five more scores.
Midway through the year, reports emerged indicating that Jones was playing through a slight fracture in his fibula. While the team publicly said it wasn’t concerned about this injury, Jones’ play began to tail off in the wake of this injury. Everything fell apart when Jones tore his Achilles, with the lengthy recovery timeline potentially set to force him to miss time early in the 2026 campaign.
With free agency looming, the Colts have a decision to make on Jones. On one hand, he looked fantastic when he was fully healthy, but in the wake of this injury, committing to him with a long-term contract is a bit of a risk. Despite that, Zachary Pereles of CBS Sports believes that the two sides will eventually come together and hammer out a new contract.
“The Colts are all the way in on Jones, especially after they traded away two first-round picks for Sauce Gardner at the trade deadline. He’s coming off a torn Achilles, but expect Indianapolis to figure something out,” Pereles wrote.

While Jones highlights the list of Indy’s pending free agents, he isn’t the only big name the team has to worry about this offseason. Right tackle Braden Smith and wide receiver Alec Pierce are also on track to hit the open market, which makes the team’s decision on Jones even more important. For what it’s worth, Pereles predicted Indy would also re-sign Smith, but he believes that Pierce could be on the move this offseason.
There are worse situations to be in across the league, but it’s clear that what Indianapolis decides to do with Jones will determine how its offseason unfolds. Jones’ injury situation and past struggles are certainly concerning, but it would be a pretty big surprise to see him land with another team when considering how effective he was under center prior to his injury woes.
