Should he be hired, he’ll join former Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski as the next executive of the rising franchise under new executive and former MVP Matt Ryan.
Liipfert, a former Georgia Tech standout, was previously the executive director of player personnel and the assistant director of personnel/director of college scouting before being promoted to assistant general manager last year inside the organization. He’s been with the organization since the hiring of general manager Nick Caserio in 2021.
Before he arrived in Houston, Liipfert spent nine seasons working for Caserio on the New England Patriots following his graduation from Georgia Tech in 2008 as a scout (two years as an assistant, four years as an area scout, and three as a national scout). He helped New England win nine division titles and two Super Bowls from 2009 to 2017.

“I have a lot of respect for James,” Caserio said Wednesday. “I’ve known him a long time. Probably known him as long as anybody in this building. Hired him as a scouting assistant. Finished his career at Georgia Tech. He hadn’t been involved in scouting, probably didn’t have much of an NFL career ahead of him. He knew that.
“I rely on him for a lot. He’s earned his opportunity, so credit to him. Whatever the Falcons decide to do, but hopefully he’s here helping the Texans. He’s fortunate to have the opportunity and I’m sure he’ll do a good job with it. Happy for James and see how it goes.”
The Texans closed out the regular season with 12 wins, the most since 2012. They will select 28th overall in the draft after losing to the Patriots in the divisional round.
