With Christian Parker landing the job with the Dallas Cowboys as the team’s next defensive coordinator, there’s reason to believe it could impact the Philadelphia Eagles.

Philadelphia has used multiple defensive backs in the past few seasons, and that could have an impact on some of the players on the roster. While those decisions have helped keep the roster as good as it is, it also means starters can find themselves facing uncertain futures.

One of those players is safety Reed Blankenship, who is now on the free agencymarket.

Blankenship has quietly been one of the Eagles’ best defensive players, earning a full-time starting role and becoming a steady presence. Still, as free agency nears, he fits a lot of other teams around the league, including the Cowboys.

According to Randy Gurzi, the Cowboys could emerge as a potential landing spot for Blankenship, largely due to both roster need and familiarity within the organization.

“The biggest name set to hit free agency with ties to Parker is Philadelphia safety Reed Blankenship,” Gurzi wrote. “A full-time starter over the past three seasons, Blankenship has 308 tackles, nine interceptions, and 23 pass breakups in his career. Dallas needs to rebuild their safety corps, and could stand to get younger. Blankenship could be a name to watch thanks to his ties to Parker.”

From a football standpoint, the fit is there. Dallas enters the offseason with major questions on the defensive side after it was brutal once again. At just 26 years old, he brings experience for one of the best teams in the NFL and is still relatively young.

While he’d be tough to lose, this is part of the business, as Philadelphia has shown time and again that it is willing to let contributors walk if the market isn’t what it wants to pay. Losing him to the Cowboys would hurt, but again, business is business.

If Dallas is serious about fixing its secondary, Blankenship is a name that could make a lot of sense due to his familiarity with Parker and other reasons. He’s a good young player and should be wanted by the Cowboys.
