With the offseason here, the Philadelphia Eagles and other teams around the league will be looking to make some tough decisions.

Philadelphia’s defense has been one of the best in the NFL in recent years, and it added some nice reinforcements at the trade deadline. The Eagles’ approach has helped the team remain competitive and give them a chance to win, but it also creates questions when multiple edge rushers are free agents at the same time.

With several defensive players already on the books, not everyone can be re-signed or extended.

When it comes to Jaelan Phillips, there’s a real chance his time with the Eagles will be short-lived, which isn’t ideal, but part of the business. While Phillips has been a great player when healthy, his future in Philadelphia may not be guaranteed as the organization figures out who to pay.

In a recent free-agency projection, CBS Sports’ Zachary Pereles predicted that Phillips would ultimately depart the Eagles and sign with the Tennessee Titans.

“Tennessee has the most effective cap space in the NFL, and they use that to their advantage here to bring in an impressive edge rusher,” Pereles wrote. “Phillips only had five sacks in 2025, but he was tied for ninth league-wide in pressures and had an impressive 18.8% pressure rate.”

While the sack total appears down on the surface, the tape paint a far more encouraging picture. When Phillips is healthy, he’s as good as most players in the league at getting to the quarterback, which is exactly what Tennessee will be searching for under new head coach Robert Saleh.

The Titans are in the middle of changing their defense, looking to add players who can get to the quarterback. With financial flexibility and not many long-term commitments, Tennessee is positioned to be aggressive if the opportunity arises.

From Philadelphia’s standpoint, the situation is one it has dealt with. The Eagles will always do what’s needed to keep good players around, but money can’t be fixed if they don’t have a ton.

With how good this Eagles’ defense is, losing Phillips wouldn’t be the end-all, be-all.
