The Arizona Cardinals are hard at work searching for the franchise’s next head coach – but one candidate the organization recently brought in for an in-person interview has some fans scratching their head in confusion, if not also a little bit of anger.
Reports on Tuesday indicated that the Cardinals interviewed a veteran former NFL head coach for their opening, bringing Ron Rivera in for an interview. Rivera, currently serving as the General Manager for the Cal Golden Bears at the NCAA Division 1 level, has previously been the head coach for both the Carolina Panthers and the Washington Commanders.
Rivera led the Panthers from 2011-2019, going 76-63-1 during his nine-season stint and leading the Panthers to four playoff appearances, including a trip to Super Bowl 50. His most recent coaching stint came with the Commanders from 2020 to 2023, where he went 26-40-1 over his four years with the franchise, including one playoff appearance. He was fired from both jobs.
