The New York Giants have suffered a significant setback in their search for an offensive coordinator, as Todd Monken has agreed to become the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the breaking news: The Browns are hiring the former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator to lead their franchise.

Monken, who orchestrated one of the NFL’s most explosive and innovative offenses in recent seasons under John Harbaugh, had been the top target for the Giants under new head coach John Harbaugh.

Earlier this offseason, Giants insiders expressed strong confidence that Monken would join New York, with reports describing the OC job as “Monken’s to lose.” The team believed his expertise would elevate their young talent, including quarterback prospects and playmakers like Malik Nabers.

However, Monken’s interviews for Cleveland’s head coaching vacancy — combined with his prior ties to the Browns organization — shifted the landscape.

With Monken now off the board, the Giants must pivot immediately. They have already requested an interview with Davis Webb, the former Giants quarterback turned rising coach who has impressed in Denver as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

The team needs to act swiftly to install a proven play-caller capable of jumpstarting their offense.
