GLENDALE – It has been three days removed from the Los Angeles Rams being eliminated in the NFC championship, and the Arizona Cardinals are still without a coach. Offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur is the heavy favorite for the Arizona head coaching job, with many believing the franchise was just waiting for Los Angeles to be eliminated.

However, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Essentially Sports writer Tony Pauline reported on Wednesday that the Cardinals still have an interview set up with Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak for later in the week. Despite the interview, Pauline states for fans to not get their hopes up.

Pauline on Cardinals still interested in Kubiak:

“On Tuesday I was told Kubiak has interviews set up later this week with the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders. The sense I’m getting is that he would likely return to Seattle rather than take the head coaching job with Arizona, unless they somehow blow him away with an amazing offer. The Cardinals are not a very desirable job for anyone.”

Kubiak has been tied to the Las Vegas Raiders head coaching vacancy. The two sides are set to meet again, but if Kubiak doesn’t like the terms, him returning to Seattle is a real possibility. Las Vegas seems content waiting for after the Super Bowl to hire the 38-year-old.

Making the Cardinals decision to put LaFleur on hold to interview Kubiak a puzzling decision. As Pauline reported, not many candidates are thrilled about the Arizona job. LaFleur has a deep desire to be a head coach and has the opportunity to be in the same division as his former leaders in Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan.

Only two teams remain during this coaching cycle, and with the Raiders locked into Kubiak, the Cardinals do have their pick of the litter. Despite that luxury, the franchise shouldn’t delay or overcompensate as that could leave its new head coach with a sour taste in their mouth.
