The Ravens are introducing Jesse Minter on Thursday, the fourth head coach in the storied franchise’s history. Minter will replace a legendary figure in John Harbaugh, who won a Super Bowl, led Baltimore to four AFC Championship Games, and departs for the New York Giants as the 14th-winningest coach of all time.

Minter said all the right things about building the franchise around two-time MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson and a newly retooled defense that’ll focus on physicality and intimidation.

“You want to build an offense that allows him to be Lamar but also at the same time utilizes all the weapons that the offense has,” Minter said.

“You don’t want him to have to be Superman every time the ball is snapped. I think you want to create a system that allows him to really get in the rhythm of games, have some plays where he can hand the ball off, take the pressure off him, have play action, have movements. And then when it’s crunch time, know that he has the ability to be really special.”

Minter’s first order of business will be to find an offensive coordinator who complements Jackson’s strengths as a dual-threat passer. For Minter, he’ll get busy retooling a Ravens defense that ranked 24th in yards allowed and 18th in points last season.
