The Philadelphia Eagles have finally put an end to their lengthy offensive coordinator search.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, Philadelphia is hiring Sean Mannion.
Mannion, who spent the past season as the Green Bay Packers’ quarterbacks coach, will take over as the Eagles’ new offensive coordinator.
After weeks of interviews and speculation, the Eagles land a younger offensive mind and former NFL quarterback to lead an offense facing mounting expectations heading into next season.
Sean Mannion’s Rapid Rise
Sean Mannion spent nine seasons in the NFL from 2015 to 2023.
He served as a backup quarterback for the Rams, Vikings, and Seahawks after being selected in the third round of the 2015 draft.
In those nine years, he only appeared in 14 career games with two starts.
But Mannion’s climb through NFL coaching circles has been much faster.
It traces back to a moment that caught the attention of Matt LaFleur after his playing career ended in February of 2024.
As NFL reporter Anthony DiBona relayed after speaking with Packers assistant Marques Eversoll, Mannion reached out to LaFleur simply to practice his interview pitch after the Bears requested a coaching interview following the 2023 season.
Instead, LaFleur was so impressed with Mannion’s preparation and offensive presentation that he essentially hired him on the spot in Green Bay.
Two seasons into his coaching career, the former NFL quarterback had already developed a reputation as a fast riser.
During his time in Green Bay, Mannion played a role in Jordan Love’s continued growth.
LaFleur said the Packers were “lucky to have him” and that Mannion has “a bright future” in the coaching profession.
He also helped elevate Malik Willis into one of the league’s most reliable backup quarterbacks.
Why the Eagles Believe Sean Mannion Is the Right Fit
With second interviews complete, the Philadelphia Eagles officially closed the book on a lengthy offensive coordinator search by selecting Mannion as their next play-caller.
Head coach Nick Sirianni has made it clear the role will come with full offensive autonomy.
This marks a significant prestige jump for the 33-year-old who has only coached for two seasons.
Mannion, who was still playing as recently as 2023, now becomes the latest former quarterback to rise quickly into a major NFC East coordinator role.
The move mirrors David Blough’s rapid rise, who was just hired as the Washington Commanders’ offensive coordinator.
Mannion is viewed internally as a detail-oriented teacher, a trait that could prove valuable for Jalen Hurts as the Eagles entrust him with guiding their franchise QB forward.
As Sports Illustrated noted during the search, several league sources already view Mannion as a future head coach in the making.
They cited his preparation, communication skills, and exposure to multiple high-level offensive systems.
That QB-to-QB connection is a big reason many around the league believe Mannion’s rise is only beginning.
Mannion would be Jalen Hurts’ sixth play-caller in six seasons.
This is a run of constant change that has made continuity hard to find in Philly.
