VIDEO REPORT: Saints hoping Senior Bowl will result in another special draft class
Hey everybody, Sharif Ishaq and Kendall Duncan with your sports here in Mobile for the Senior Bowl. It’s where the draft starts for the Saints and every other team in the NFL for the Saints. This is *** very important process. They have the 8th overall pick in the draft. They have to find *** very good playmaker, *** decision maker, someone who’s gonna be *** very good player for this team. Look, they’ve hit very well here at the Senior Bowl last year, especially with Tyler Chuck and 3 other very good. Players for this franchise going back years they’ve had *** lot of success here at the Senior Bowl, and the Saints staff is well represented once again here and that’s really one of the big reasons why the black and gold do hit on so many draft players because it’s only *** process where they get to know these players, they get to watch them practice every day, do interviews, and this is really *** big major process for the Saints, but they go hand in hand, those front office executives with these coaches on how to make these big decisions. We kind of create *** template for what we’re asking them to give back to us, and again, they did *** great job of creating what we’re looking for or what they’re looking for and the clearer the vision of what they can give to us, the better we can go out and find it. And so they were very clear of what they wanted in specific players and I go back to Bill Parcells when I was with Bill, you know, Bill told me he wanted to look like this, they wanted this smart. He was very clear and detailed and decisive of what he was looking for. Same with this staff, *** staff that has 5 coaches here in Mobile helping evaluate the talent at the Senior Bowl, led by running backs coach Joel Thomas, who’s the head coach of the American team. You know, we submit *** list. You expect 1 or 2 to get picked, and we had 9 picked total between the Senior Bowl and, and, um. In the East West game and it is *** good advantage for us because we get some, you know, we get *** lot of good information on the players that are here that they coach and, um, it’s *** good experience for, for our staff and, and, uh, good for our personnel department. What else could be good? Building around their quarterback Tyler Chuck, who they’re hoping is the franchise quarterback, *** guy who could use some playmakers going into his second season. We got *** young quarterback and, and you want to have *** good defense. You want to have great protection up front, um. And you wanna, you know, give him playmakers to get the ball to. I mean that, but you’d want to do that for any quarterback. It’s important to get protection up front. It’s important to have *** good back to, to set up the run game, to be able to create, you know, some play action and shots down the field. So, you know, having *** balanced offense and *** really good defense, that’s what we’re trying to really build.
