FORMER NFL OL LIKES CAMPEN HIRE

Mike McCarthy and the Steelers are hard at work assembling their coaching staff. They’ve kept some members of Mike Tomlin’s staff, but most of the positions will be filled by new hires. However, McCarthy has been around the league for a while, so he’s connected to plenty of coaches. That’s evident in some of the hires he’s made already, including new Steelers offensive line coach James Campen.

Campen is a veteran, coaching in the NFL since 2004. He’s developed plenty of good players, too. That includes former NFL offensive lineman T.J. Lang. Campen coached Lang from 2009 to 2016, and the lineman grew into a solid player and a two-time Pro Bowler. Lang took to Twitter to comment on the Steelers hiring Campen, and he gave his approval for the move.

GREENFIELD HAPPY FOR MCCARTHY

The Steelers hired Pittsburgh-native Mike McCarthy as their new head coach. It’s a dream come true for him. He grew up in Greenfield, which is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh. While that was a long time ago, McCarthy has never forgotten his Pittsburgh roots. They haven’t forgotten him, either.

News station WTAE spoke to Greenfield-local Jimmy Gregg, who has known McCarthy for decades, about the Steelers’ new head coach. He had some fun stories to share about McCarthy. Also, he expressed how great it is for children in the area to see someone from Greenfield coaching the Steelers. While not everyone loved the hire, McCarthy is inspiring people in the area.

ACTOR WELCOMES COACH

The Steelers are one of the most historic NFL franchises. Their sustained success has won them several celebrity fans, too. That includes actor Joe Manganiello. He has appeared in several movies and television shows. He’s also from Pittsburgh, explaining his allegiance to the Steelers.

While many Steelers fans didn’t love that the team hired Mike McCarthy, Manganiello seems satisfied. He took to Twitter to welcome Pittsburgh’s new head coach. A fellow Pittsburgh native, he knows what this means to McCarthy. However, we’ll have to wait and see if that translates into wins.
