The Pittsburgh Steelers are expected add a decorated former interior lineman to their coaching staff. After reportedly hiring veteran offensive line coach James Campen on Thursday, new head coach Mike McCarthy is expected to also add Jahri Evans to the fold, according to CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.

Evans will be joining the staff in an unspecified role.

One of 15 finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025, Evans spent the first 11 seasons of his NFL career (2006-16) as a right guard for the New Orleans Saints. He started 169 games with that team, protecting Drew Brees and clearing the way in the ground game. Evans played for McCarthy and the Green Bay Packers during his final campaign (2017).

Evans earned first-team Associated Press All-Pro nods each year from 2009-12 and, alongside Aaron Rodgers, was named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame 2010s All-Decade Team. A Philadelphia native and Bloomsburg alum, Evans began coaching with the Saints in 2022 and has progressed from an intern to assistant offensive line coach. He was selected to the Saints Ring of Honor in 2024.

The Steelers, who are expected to have a larger and more experienced coaching staff and McCarthy than they did under Tomlin, could be bringing Campen in with a senior offensive assistant, assistant head coach or run-game coordinator title, which would allow them to be able to offer a promotion to offensive line coach to Evans.
