Joe Brady’s first day as head coach has many in the Buffalo Bills organization and community energized.

And some are ready to run through a brick wall.

The Bills debuted their former QB coach and offensive coordinator-turned head coach at a press conference on Thursday that provided a first-look into what the team will be like under his leadership.

He shared his vision and insights for the future and provided answers to questions about the 2025 season and the process that preceded his being hired as the new head coach in Buffalo.

With that, here are twelve takeaways from the Brady intro presser:

The new head coach is bringing new energy and vision

Brady spoke with passion and conviction about bringing a new vision to the Bills and energy to their organization. But also a new mentality, one in which opponents are playing Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.

It was a tough interview process, odds were against Brady, and he stood out

The Bills interviewed Brady first before other head coaching candidates, two or three of whom were standing out, and he was one of them. But it didn’t come easy. The Bills brass asked hard questions, and even Josh Allen got in on the action.

By the second interview, Pegula was convinced

One of the interesting notes that GM Brandon Beane shared during the dual presser was that it was during Brady’s second interview that he convinced the owner he was the right man for the job.

In building his coaching staff, it’s important not to rush, get the right people, and not hire friends

“If we have a bunch of Joe Brady’s in the room, then we’re not going to grow and evolve. I only get one chance to be a head football coach. I’m not into hiring friends,” Brady said. He wants to find the right people.

Emphasized the importance of him and his players being themselves

A number of Bills players showed up to support their new head coach, and he thanked them for allowing him to be himself. It was also mentioned over the course of the day that he emphasized the importance of being themselves, too.

Brady “stood on the table for Keon Coleman” and believes in him

Brady says he did “stand on the table” to draft Keon Coleman, and that he told Coleman that the best thing that could have ever happened for him was for him (Brady) to become his head coach.

Knows how to be aggressive in downfield passing game

Brady knows the passing game needs to improve. He will retain offensive playcalling duties, which was one area that still has questions around it since he called it the past two years, in which the team struggled to throw downfield, deep, or on the boundaries. Josh Allen has the strongest arm in football, and it’s been a long time since he’s had targets to demonstrate that with. The QB used to make touchdown throws from the logo at midfield. Brady knows they need to improve in passing downfield.

Will build on McDermott’s foundation

Brady and Josh Allen both spoke to their value for head coach Sean McDermott and what he made possible in Buffalo. Brady expounded on that value and the foundation his predecessor laid, and how he plans to build on it.

Going to pressure opposing QBs and OCs on defense

Brady’s approach to defense, per Brandon Beane, will go further than pressuring opposing quarterbacks. He’ll aim to take it to the next level, not only in getting to the quarterbacks but in pressuring opposing offensive coordinators.

He believes the offense, defense, and special teams should never look the same year to year, that they have to grow and continue to do that, or they will get the same results.

Wanted the job because of the expectations

Brady continued his media availability after the presser via an appearance on the Pat McAfee show on ESPN, complete with Josh Allen and Brandon Beane cameos and more insights. In both his presser and inteview he expressed he was embracing the expectations, but went even further to make clear he wanted them.

Wanted to be the head coach of the Buffalo Bills

Brady wanted to be a head coach. But not just anywhere, he wanted to be the head coach of the Bills in Buffalo. He talked about it to the Bills’ front office and later to the media as well.

Recognized his Wife first and foremost

Brady is a family man, and he has had his kids in Buffalo. He multiple times credited his Wife in a number of ways for her support of him and their family, and for making what he does possible.
