The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired Jahri Evans as their assistant offensive line coach working under James Campen, per NFL insider Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston.

Evans held the same title for the New Orleans Saints, the team that drafted him and with whom spent the first 11 years of his playing career. His 12th and final NFL season was spent playing under Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy with the Green Bay Packers, and Evans was coached by James Campen, whom the Steelers have reportedly hired as their offensive line coach.

It was reported last night that the Steelers were expected to hire Evans, but Wilson makes it sound as if the deal is now done, though there hasn’t been anything official from the team. It marks a reunion for Evans with McCarthy and Campen, though this will be the first time Evans is on the same coaching staff as both of them.

He began his coaching career in 2022 as a preseason intern with the Saints, and he served as an offensive assistant in 2023 and 2024 before being promoted to assistant offensive line coach under Kellen Moore, another former McCarthy assistant, last season. Evans is one of the best offensive linemen of his generation, as he’s a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame 2026 class and was a six-time Pro Bowler and five-time All-Pro, including being named a first-team All-Pro four times.

Evans’ hiring likely means the Steelers are moving on from Isaac Williams, who was the team’s assistant offensive line coach from 2022-2025. After Campen’s reported hiring yesterday, former Steelers offensive line coach Pat Meyer reportedly accepted a job with the Buffalo Bills.

It’s also notable that the Steelers are hiring Evans given that he worked with Saints quarterbacks coach Scott Tolzien last year, and Tolzien is a candidate for the Steelers’ offensive coordinator job. That would provide more familiarity for the new staff if Tolzien winds up getting hired by Pittsburgh.

Evans is a Philadelphia native who played his college football at Bloomsburg, so his hiring also marks a return to Pennsylvania where he’ll look to help the Steelers’ young offensive line progress.
