Following the NFL’s latest salary cap news, how much available space do the Indianapolis Colts now have?
On Friday, it was reported that the league notified teams that the 2026 salary cap would be between $301.2 million and $305.7 million.

Compared to Over the Cap’s previous projected salary cap figure of $295.5 million, that’s a jump in cap space for the Colts and the rest of the NFL of roughly $5.5 million to almost $10 million.
The Colts were in good cap shape before this news, and things remain that way. Now, Over the Cap has Indianapolis with $34.91 million in available cap space for the upcoming offseason. This is the 12th most in the NFL.
That figure can fluctuate up or down, depending on where the cap lands in that reported range.
The opportunity for GM Chris Ballard to further reshape the Colts’ roster in free agency does seem to exist, given the team’s salary cap situation.

When owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon spoke with the media after the season, she mentioned how Ballard adapted his roster-building approach, which included being more aggressive.
Ballard then seemed to acknowledge that continuing down that path was going to be the plan this offseason.
Addressing the defensive side of the ball, specifically, seems to be a big priority for the Colts this offseason.
Like every other team, Ballard can also create more cap space by pushing current year’s cap charges to future seasons. This can be done through contract restructures, extensions, or by veteran cuts.
Any unused cap space from 2025 will rollover to 2026 as well.
