Spring of 2026 has some interesting implications when it comes to the New Orleans Saints, notably, their upcoming free agents. One of the most fascinating of the bunch will be utility-player Taysom Hill, who, despite injury and a slight lessening of workload, has still been a vital component of the Saints’ offense in recent years. With the group of playmakers still developing, his presence in the various skills position rooms would be positive.
Bringing him back on a new contract would be the biggest component to that structure, though, as he currently has a void year tied to his contract, which would put a $13,723,000 charge on the books for New Orleans if he were to leave. If he re-signs, that can be spread out a bit better to make things more palatable for the Saints.
General manager Mickey Loomis recently discussed how the team plans to handle Hill’s potential future contract, and the situation of whether or not he will retire.
“You know, I’ve given him some space, so we’ll touch base with him soon, but it’s hard to have these conversations right after the end of the season,” Loomis said. “You want that emotion to go out of it, we’ll give guys some time and space, and not feel like they’re pressured to make decisions, and we’ve got time.”
At this point in time, it is clear that all three of Hill, Demario Davis, and Cameron Jordan are in limbo for 2026, at least in regards to their future with New Orleans. While Davis has expressed a full desire to continue next season, he has also acknowledged the possibility of testing the market.

Hill being brought back on an extremely friendly one-year deal to cut up the dead cap hit the team would incur otherwise may be the best possible scenario, as it would not hurt long-term, and would help the short-term cap space. While his on-field production may dip due to his knee injury, it is worth having a veteran presence on offense who can help out the younger pieces likely being added this offseason.
