Justin Herbert was the second-most sacked quarterback in the NFL in 2025.

That’s an issue that the Los Angeles Chargers need to address this offseason by bolstering the offensive line in front of Herbert, and they’ll have an opportunity to do just that in free agency.

Chargers urged to sign Tyler Linderbaum in free agency

In a recent article for Pro Football Focus, Bradley Locker urged the Chargers to sign Baltimore Ravens center Tyler Linderbaum in order to make life easier for Herbert.

Linderbaum is a three-time Pro Bower with an incredible track record for durability. Over his first four seasons in the league, he missed just one start while playing at least 94 percent of all offensive snaps in each season. At 25 years old, he could be a cornerstone of the line in L.A. for the foreseeable future.

“The fact that the Chargers made the playoffs with the NFL’s worst offensive line by overall PFF grade is borderline miraculous. Natural reinforcements will come via the returns of Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt, but the unit also needs an upheaval up the middle. Spending on Linderbaum is a prudent idea,” Locker wrote.

“Linderbaum has posted a 74.6 overall PFF grade or better in each of his four pro campaigns, and he’s allowed only two sacks over the last three seasons. Indeed, the former first-round pick is the second-most-valuable center since his debut, according to PFF’s Wins Above Replacement metric.”

The Chargers will be looking to refresh the offense under new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel next season, and adding a dominant player on the offensive line like Linderbaum would be a solid start.

Signing Linderbaum won’t be cheap, but the Chargers are projected to have the third-most salary cap space in the league heading into free agency, so they could swing it.
