The Giants are eyeing Brian Callahan and Kliff Kingsbury early in their search for a new offensive coordinator

The New York Giants have had an up-and-down start to the offseason. While they did well to pounce on John Harbaugh and hire him as their new head coach after he was surprisingly fired by the Baltimore Ravens, his top pick for the offensive coordinator role on his staff, Todd Monken, ended up landing the Cleveland Browns‘ head coach opening.

With Monken out of the picture, Harbaugh has been forced to essentially start his search for a new offensive coordinator from scratch. As a result, he’s beginning to work on identifying candidates for the job, and it sounds like a pair of former head coaches, Brian Callahan and Kliff Kingsbury, could emerge as frontrunners for this position.

Considering how Harbaugh had spent the past three seasons working with Monken as his offensive coordinator in Baltimore, it wasn’t much of a surprise to see that he wanted to have him join his coaching staff in New York. Cleveland’s long and winding path to finding a new head coach ended with a surprise, though, as Monken emerged from seemingly out of nowhere to win the job.

Now, Harbaugh is scrambling to find a new offensive coordinator. While he’s casting a wide net in his search, both Callahan and Kingsbury are names that stand out. Callahan just got fired by the Tennessee Titans midway through the 2025 campaign, but prior to that, he enjoyed a successful five-season stint as the Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator.

Kingsbury, on the other hand, most recently worked as the Washington Commanders‘ offensive coordinator before he was surprisingly fired earlier this offseason. He previously worked as the Arizona Cardinals‘ head coach, so he has a ton of experience, which could help him stand out as Harbaugh begins to trim down his list of candidates. And as he does that, it sounds like both of these guys could have a good shot at landing this job.

Yes, it’s obviously not ideal to have missed out on Monken, but Harbaugh still has a slew of top-tier options at his disposal. And considering all the young talent New York has at its disposal on offense, coaches will likely be lining up in hopes of landing this job. Truth be told, it all depends on what Harbaugh wants the Giants’ offense to look like moving forward.

Kingsbury did enjoy some success in 2024 as the Commanders’ offensive coordinator, while Callahan’s work with the Bengals helped their offense become what it is today. Both guys would be solid hires, and they could end up being the final two guys Harbaugh picks between for this job. With this search ramping up, it will be worth seeing who gets a second interview for New York’s offensive coordinator gig next week.
